Cooler weather is here and brings us back into the landscaping season again.  We will be giving Notice to Proceed to Branders Bridge to complete the initial plantings along the Meadow Creek Interceptor corridor in areas that were not completed in the spring.  These areas include:

  • City Gardens area off Morton Drive
  • Area between Hearthwood Apartments to Pepsi Place/Brookmill
  • Radio tower site at Melbourne/Park Street
  • Old Meadow Creek WWTP site at the end of Pen Park Lane at the contractor staging area

We will also be performing a one-year warranty inspection on the remaining plantings so you may see RWSA staff, our landscape architects from Williamsburg Environmental Group, or the landscaping contractor out marking plants for replacement in other areas along the sewer alignment including:

  • Meadow Creek Golf Course
  • Locust Meadows to Holmes Avenue
  • Holmes Avenue to Rio Road
  • Greenbrier Park to Brookmill/Pepsi Place

Fall planting is anticipated to take several months and we appreciate your patience during this process.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Below is the most recent report from Steve Sherman on the Meadow Creek Stream Restoration project.

The construction will soon reach the footbridge to the senior center, and then will jump to Brandywine Drive in 10+ days.  Construction activities during the week of July 30 include continued installation of in-stream structures and grading the new channel behind Seminole Square Shopping Center.  Installation is complete on 38 structures, and final grading and structure installation is complete on approximately 3,400 feet of stream channel.   Approximately 700 feet of stream work remains in the upstream reach (Hydraulic Road to Brandywine Drive).  The upper reach is expected to be completed the week of August 6 and work is expected to begin in the downstream reach (Greenbrier Park) the week of August 13 or August 20.

Call for Greenbrier Elementary memorabilia

Dear Neighbors,

Greenbrier Elementary School turns 50 this year!  It opened its doors to students K-7 in 1962.   In honor of this event, we would like to collect memorabilia about the school and school events from the past 50 years.  If you have any photos, newspaper articles, or other memorabilia you would be willing to donate to the school please drop it off at the school office before August 21st.   After August 21st, please contact Emily Leblang at eleblang@hotmail.com because school will be in session. We will not be able to return any of these items, but would appreciate photocopies or color copies if possible.

We are also collecting old T-shirts with the Greenbrier logo to make a memory quilt. We are particularly interested in any tshirts prior to 2001.

If you are knowledgeable about archiving these items or would like to help put together some memory albums, please contact Emily Leblang at eleblang@hotmail.com.

PLEASE NOTE:  School opens on Wednesday, August 22nd…..please watch for walkers, bike riders, and kids at the bus stops!

Thank you.

Regards, Emily Leblang and Jodie Murphy

Meadow Creek Stream Restoration: Weeks 8 and 9

Weeks 8-9: Construction activities include continued installation of in-stream structures and grading the new channel just north of Hearthwood Apartment Homes at the end of Michie Drive.  The first 27 structures have been installed, and final grading, seeding, and installation of erosion control matting and structures is complete on approximately 2,200 feet of stream channel.  The crew will continue to work their way downstream, installing additional structures, excavating the new channel, and filling the old channel as they go.
